The Sheffield Wednesday striker is back after spending the best part of a year sidelined.
A number of Sheffield Wednesday fans were left encouraged by Sam Winnall’s cameo at Bolton on Tuesday.
Winnall has been sidelined for the best part of a year with various injuries, and according to the 28-year-old’s manager, Steve Bruce, he’s been “training like a beast” in pursuit of a first-team place.
With Fernando Forestieri and Lucas Joao absent, Winnall made his second comeback at Derby on Saturday, and backed that up with 33 minutes at the University of Bolton Stadium.
His impact was instant, as Wednesday scored their second goal within two minutes of the striker’s arrival, and he came close to scoring himself from Rolando Aarons’ cross later on.
And several of a Sheffield Wednesday persuasion were in agreement about Winnall’s influence afterwards.
Whether or nor Winnall can force his way into Bruce’s starting 11 for Blackburn’s visit to Hillsborough on Saturday remains to be seen.
But given how quickly he appeared to tire at Bolton, it is perhaps more likely that one of Atdhe Nuhiu, Marco Matias and George Boyd will partner/play off Steven Fletcher instead.
