Sky Bet have installed Sheffield Wednesday as one of the frontrunners to sign Middlesbrough’s Stewart Downing.
Downing is said to have been told he is free to leave his boyhood club, following Garry Monk’s appointment as manager.
And given Wednesday’s need for another winger – not to mention the Owls’ penchant for a Middlesbrough player – it is perhaps no surprise they feature so highly on the bookmaker’s list of likely destinations.

Downing has enjoyed a fine career, which began at Middlesbrough and continued at Aston Villa, Liverpool and West ham United, before his second and current spell on Teesside.
Now 32, it’s fair to say the 35-cap England international’s best days are probably behind him. But could he do a job for Sheffield Wednesday?
He was a Premier League player last season after all – having been promoted with Boro the one before that – although for that reason he is unlikely to come cheap, free transfer or not.
