Venancio’s loan spell expires after Sheffield Wednesday’s season finale on Sunday.

Some Sheffield Wednesday supporters are concerned that the Owls will not be signing Frederico Venancio on a permanent basis.
Venancio has established himself as a regular in Wednesday’s back line, despite being overlooked by former manager Carlos Carvalhal – who brought his fellow Portuguese to Hillsborough last August – for half the campaign.
According to reports in Venancio’s homeland (A Bola), the Owls have an agreement in place to turn his loan spell permanent for £2.6 million.
But after the announcement of Wednesday’s retained list – which states that Venancio will return to parent club, Vitoria Setubal, after Sunday’s season finale – on Tuesday (official site), there are fears that will not now happen.
Despite the fans’ concerns, Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has already admitted his interest in bringing Venancio back to Hillsborough next season (Sheffield Star).
And just because Venancio is due back at Vitoria does not mean that an agreement cannot be reached at a later date – as proved to be the case with another Portugal based centre-back, Vincent Sasso, two years ago.

Vitoria’s precarious league position – third from bottom with two games remaining – could well have a bearing on the 25-year-old’s future, not to mention his transfer fee.
