The Cardiff City defender has signed a new deal, shortly after Sheffield Wednesday saw their offer turned down by the Bluebirds.

Sheffield Wednesday can cross Sean Morrison off their list of central defensive targets, after he committed his future to Cardiff City on Thursday.

Wednesday made a £3 million bid for Morrison in June, but were informed by Cardiff boss Neil Warnock that their offer ‘wouldn’t even buy one of the Bluebirds skipper’s legs’.

The Owls now face a race against time to strengthen their options at the back, with the new Championship season little more than a fortnight away.

Nevertheless, there are plenty of Wednesday supporters who don’t believe that missing out on Morrison is necessarily a bad thing.

Naturally, many have their own targets in mind, and a quick glance on Twitter has unearthed a lengthy wish list, with Josh Egan, Harlee Dean (both Brentford), Steven Caulker (Queens Park Rangers), Tomas Kalas, Michael Hector, Kenneth Omeruo (all Chelsea), Grant Hanley (Newcastle United), Daniel Ayala (Middlesbrough), Kyle Bartley (Swansea City), Tommy Elphick and Nathan Baker (both Aston Villa) all namechecked.

But there’s one player whose name seems to appear more than most…

Which defender(s) should Sheffield Wednesday be targeting?
