The former Sheffield Wednesday winger was present as the band performed at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena.
Sheffield Wednesday fans Arctic Monkeys serenaded a former Owls player at the band’s Newcastle gig on Friday.
Chris Waddle, who helped Wednesday to the finals of both the League and FA Cup in 1993, was present at the Metro Radio Arena, where he was treated to a rendition of the once-popular chant sung in his honour by supporters of the Yorkshire club.
Afterwards, Waddle tweeted his thanks to the Sheffield quartet, adding that he was “totally honoured” by the tribute – footage of which was captured below by the former England winger.
And, given Waddle’s five years of service to Newcastle United at the start of his career, it was not just the 57-year-old who will have enjoyed that part of the performance.
Sheffield Wednesday were also in action on Friday night, securing a 1-1 draw against Leeds United at Hillsborough courtesy of a first-half wonder strike from Adam Reach – another County Durham native.
A few more of those and Reach, who grew up a Newcastle fan, may himself become the focus of Arctic Monkeys’ attention.
