Former Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Madine has made the move to join Sheffield United this month.

Michael Vaughan posted a light-hearted response on Twitter after it was announced that former Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Madine had joined Sheffield United on loan.

Madine has joined Chris Wilder’s men as they continue to push for promotion out of the Championship, and he will be hoping to complement the cluster of attacking options already at Bramall Lane.

It is a move however, that has attracted plenty of attention – despite his goalless stint at Cardiff City – as it comes just a few seasons after Madine’s four year spell at Hillsborough came to an end.

The 28-year-old appeared 113 times for the Owls in all competitions and scored 28 goals, spending the majority of his final two years with the club out on loan with Carlisle, Coventry City and Blackpool.

And Wednesday fan and former England cricket captain Vaughan could not help but poke fun as the Blades announced the move on social media on Monday.

The announcement included some quotes from Madine where he explained how delighted he was to make the switch to United. But Vaughan could not help but notice how the image of the striker alongside did not quite reflect the excitement his comments alluded to.
