The Sheffield Wednesday striker sparked speculation he could be en route to Hibernian this summer.

Gary Hooper won’t be joining Hibernian from Sheffield Wednesday – not that anyone needed telling.

A post on one of the striker’s recent Instagram stories appeared to show him Scotland bound, prompting speculation that he could be set for a Celtic reunion with old boss Neil Lennon at Hibernian.

But the rumour was put to bed on Tuesday, after Wednesday’s first team coach, Lee Bullen, was quizzed about a separate image which appeared on the social media site – from Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo’s post, of himself and former Owls midfielder Jose Semedo shirtless in Ibiza, sparked a storm of its own this week.

And when quizzed by one Wednesday supporter about the chances of the Portuguese moving to Hillsborough, Bullen replied: “More chance of this than Hooper to Hibs!”

Hooper missed four-and-a-half months of last season, but returned to feature in six of Wednesday’s last seven regular season fixtures and was on the winning side in every single one.

The 29-year-old joined the Owls from Norwich City 18 months ago for £3.3 million [Transfermarkt] and has scored 19 goals in 58 outings.

He remains under contract at Hillsborough until 2019.
