New Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he has already been impressed by Tottenham Hotspur loanee Josh Onomah in training.

Bruce and Onomah worked with each other at Aston Villa last season, and now will be reunited at Wednesday.

And the youngster, who has struggled for game time at Wednesday since joining in the summer, has already caught Bruce’s eye.

“He did really well for me at Villa last year,” Bruce said. “I watched him in training on my first day (last Thursday) and it reminded me what a good player he is.”

Onomah was only used as a substitute during Wednesday’s last match against Ipswich Town, but he could have an increased chance of starting under Bruce.

Onomah has made just eight starts for the Owls this term, with his season being disrupted by injury.

The 21-year-old could be looking forward to featuring more regularly under Bruce though, if he continues to impress in training.

Bruce got off to a winning start at Wednesday, as they beat Ipswich 1-0 on Saturday.

The Owls are next in action on Saturday, when they take on Reading at Hillsborough.
