Bannan started Sheffield Wednesday’s 0-0 draw in an unfamiliar wide role.
Steve Bruce doubts he will play Barry Bannan out wide again soon, after sampling a change of position for the Sheffield Wednesday midfielder at Millwall on Tuesday.
Bannan has played his best football for Wednesday in a central role, and is often the go-to option for teammates as they look to mount an attack.
But with the Scotland international cast aside at the Den, the Owls found it difficult to create any meaningful opportunities.
And it wasn’t until Bannan returned to his natural home that Bruce’s side even threatened to take home three points.
Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield after Wednesday’s second straight 0-0 draw, Bruce said: “Look, I remember him [Bannan] playing off the side a couple of years ago, and I wanted to have a look at it.
“I wanted to see if we could get him in them little areas. But we didn’t play at all. We only played when he came into the middle of the pitch and got us playing.
“So, I’ve learnt something tonight – I don’t think I’ll be doing that in a hurry again!”
Bannan was making his 150th appearance for Sheffield Wednesday, in which time he has scored or made 25 goals.
