The Newcastle United left-back impressed on his Sheffield Wednesday debut on Saturday.
Steve Bruce has confirmed that Achraf Lazaar suffered a hamstring injury on only his second appearance for Sheffield Wednesday since joining on loan from Newcastle United.
Lazaar could be seen holding his left calf after racing back to stop a Brentford attack, and was immediately withdrawn just 36 minutes into Wednesday’s 2-0 win at Hillsborough on Tuesday night.
The 27-year-old has barely played any first-team football these past two-and-a-half campaigns, despite having cost Newcastle around £2.5 million (Transfermarkt).
And he now looks set for another spell on the sidelines.
Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield after the Brentford game, Bruce admitted: “Well, I think that’s what my big mistake of tonight was (playing Lazaar).
“He hasn’t played for such a long time and that’s what we mean for all of the supporters going back. I was worried because physically it took that much out of him on Saturday (against Swansea) and if Foxy (Morgan Fox) had have been fit I might have been swayed to just come away from it.
“But he had such a good debut, he was beaming yesterday and I took the chance with him. In hindsight, it looks a nasty one so we’ll see how he is.”
The Owls boss added: “He’s had a tough time the kid, there’s nothing worse than not playing or (being) injured as a footballer, and unfortunately he’s going to be missing for a few weeks, that’s for sure.”
Meanwhile, Lazaar’s Newcastle colleague, Rolando Aarons, impressed again for temporary employers Sheffield Wednesday against Brentford.
The 23-year-old registered two assists on his full debut against Swansea on Saturday, and came close to scoring his first Owls goal three days later.
