The Sheffield Wednesday striker is said to feature on Wolves’ list of targets.

Carlos Carvalhal has told BBC Radio Sheffield he knows nothing of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ alleged interest in Jordan Rhodes.

The Sheffield Wednesday striker is said to among the options being considered by Wolves as a possible alternative to Southampton’s Sam Gallagher (Sun on Sunday).

Wednesday are reported to have paid £10 million (Transfermarkt) to turn Rhodes’ loan from Middlesbrough permanent at the start of last month, although the 27-year-old has scored only three goals in 21 appearances for the Owls.

And when asked if selling him was ‘completely out of the question’, Carvalhal replied: “I don’t know nothing about that. You know my opinion also.

“I’m not a coach that, not in that case or in another case, will be cancelling any kind of business that the chairman can do. Never, I will do that – never. I’m here to try to solve problems, not to create problems.

“But I don’t know nothing about (any) negotiations, because I am fixed in my work. If I (am told) one day that a player is for sale or not – the chairman never mentioned to me that we will sell nobody – but if one day he came to me and said that he will sell one player, I will try to cover the situation and I will do the best with the players that I have.”

The Wednesday head coach revealed at the end of last season that he was seeking ‘four or five’ new signings, although, Rhodes aside, George Boyd remains the Owls’ only summer recruit.

And after the Portuguese last week admitted that his side are ‘on the line’ in relation to the Football League’s financial fair play restrictions (BBC Radio Sheffield), it is possible that offers for players could be entertained in the closing weeks of the transfer window.

It has been claimed, however, that Wolves are also wary of over-spending (Daily Mail), having recruited around £20 million worth of talent this summer.
