Sheffield Wednesday’s victory over Huddersfield Town was a huge cause for celebration at Hillsborough, as it showed that the club have what it takes to make another push for the play-offs this season. It was a solid performance by many Owls players however one person who did not impress was midfielder Barry Bannan. As reported by The Star, manager Carlos Carvalhal has spoken about his decision to take the 26-year-old off during the game.
Bannan had recently returned from international duty with Scotland and whilst that should not be too much of an excuse, he did give everything he had in their two World Cup qualifiers. Carvalhal has blamed his fatigue one of the reasons why he took the Scot off before the hour mark.
“Barry was completely tired,” he told The Star.

“We were planning to take him off at half-time but we gave him another 10 minutes or so in the second half to see if he would react a little better.
“With the two games he played for Scotland, the travel and coming late, he was very tired so we decided to substitute him.”

Despite the decision the Owls did go on to win the game, and as they prepare to face Cardiff City in search of a third successive away win they know that momentum is on their side.
With just goal difference separating themselves and the play-offs, it seems likely that the Yorkshire side will be invading the top six in the weeks to come.
