Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal has stated that he wants a strong fan support this weekend when the Owls host Queens Park Rangers at Hillsborough, as reported by The Star.

Wednesday’s resurgence over the last few years has seen them knocking on the door of the Premier League once again, with the closest they have come being their heartbreaking play-off final loss to Hull City in May.

They have bounced back well though, and under Carvalhal supporters are once again believing that they can make a run at the top six this season.

This weekend’s game will be Wednesday’s first home fixture since losing to Brighton & Hove Albion a few weeks ago, and with such an important run of fixtures coming up they cannot afford many slip-ups in their own backyard.

Carvalhal told The Star: “We play again against a team who have one more day to recover than us. It will be our third game in a short time.

“The conditions are better for them (QPR) but the fans can equalise the situation.

“They can make a big difference. We are looking forward to receiving massive support for the game on Saturday and we need it. We will try to fight for the three points.”

The importance of every fixture in this division cannot be understated, as the overall unpredictability of the league can see you beat one of the in-form teams one week then lose to bottom of the table the next.

With such a talented squad at their disposal, it is not difficult to imagine Wednesday being in the running for Wembley once again once May rolls around.
