Fernando Forestieri is set to return to Sheffield Wednesday training this week.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal has suggested to the Chronicle that Fernando Forestieri could return in the near future.
Forestieri was ruled out of Wednesday’s last match against Aston Villa at the weekend, and the Yorkshire side clearly missed their key creator.
Wednesday slipped to a costly 2-0 defeat at Villa Park, leaving their place in the play offs looking in some doubt.
There were some rumours around Hillsborough that Forestieri was set to miss the rest of the season with a knee complaint.
But Carvalhal insists that the Argentine attacking midfielder is not far away from fitness, and that he will return to training this week.
“Fernando has some pain in the knee,” Carvalhal said. “He wasn’t available to play.
“We don’t know exactly the extent of the situation. We will analayse the situation during the week but we have some expectations that he can be involved on Friday.
“On Monday, he will come to the training and let’s see when he starts moving and training with the team his reaction.”
Wednesday’s next match comes against fellow play off chasers Reading, and if Forestieri is fit for the contest it will be a major boost.
The Owls are currently two points behind fifth placed Reading, so if they could pick up the victory it would be a major boost to their promotion chances.
