Sheffield Wednesday could be looking for a new manager soon as the board allegedly have plans to sack current boss Carlos Carvalhal if the club fail to win promotion, as reports the Telegraph.

The Owls are currently fifth in the Championship table with two games remaining, and can secure a play-off spot mathematically at the weekend if they better Leeds United’s result.

However, it seems that given the amounts of money that has been spent strengthening Wednesday’s side, only promotion will suffice for the ambitious board in place at Hillsborough, with the club spending over £25m since Carvalhal’s appointment in the summer of 2015.

Last year, Wednesday lost 1-0 to Hull City in the play-off final, but recovered well from their setback and are all but certain of playing an extra two matches at the end of this season – at least – in a bid to win promotion to the Premier League.

Sacking Carvalhal will not go down well with Wednesday fans, who love their current boss, especially as Carvalhal currently has a 47.1% win percentage – the second best in Wednesday history.

The Owls, who’ve won their last five league matches having gone on a shaky run beforehand which saw them drop out the top six temporarily, are away at Ipswich Town at the weekend.
