Sheffield Wednesday are weighing up a move for Birmingham City midfielder Stephen Gleeson, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Gleeson has established himself as one of the best central midfielders in the Championship since joining Birmingham from MK Dons in the summer of 2014.

The 28-year-old has been a virtual ever-present for Birmingham during the last two seasons in the Championship and he is an integral part of Gary Rowett’s plans at St Andrew’s.
Leeds United and Reading are both also understood to be also considering Gleeson as they look to bring in a new central midfielder but Wednesday are hoping to beat their Championship rivals to the Dubliner by making an approach for the player.

Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal is in the market for a defensive midfielder and he is believed to have identified Gleeson to potentially fill that role at Hillsborough as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion.
Birmingham are very reluctant to lose Gleeson, but Wednesday could be ready to test their resolve to keep hold of the Irishman before the close of the transfer window.
