Sheffield Wednesday academy coach Steven Haslam in action for the Owls
Sheffield Wednesday’s head of academy coaching refused to be drawn on George Hirst’s future when questioned on Alan Biggs’ Sheffield Live TV show on Thursday.
Everton are one of several Premier League sides said to be keen on the teenage Owls striker, who has played twice for the Carlos Carvalhal’s first team.
According to Biggs, who has worked reputable publications such as the BBC and Talksport, there is “absolutely no doubt” the reports of Everton’s interest are accurate.
However, when asked if Hirst could be offered a new contract in a bid to deter the Toffees, Wednesday’s Steven Haslam replied: “Yeah, I’m in charge of the football things, the contract situation is handled by other people.
“I look after the football, like I said I work with the under-23s down to the under-9s. I’ve got a lot of players to look after and that’s my job.”
After it was suggested that a positive conclusion can hopefully be reached, Haslam rsponded: “Yes,” before reiterating that he is “not at all” involved.
Hirst, whose father David starred in Wednesday’s successful early ’90s team, has been in fine goalscoring form club and country this season, and recorded a hat-trick in his latest outing for the Owls’ Under-23s against Hull City.
Everton have recently added a number of young English prospects to their ranks, notably Ademola Lookman of Charlton Athletic and Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Wednesday’s city rivals Sheffield United.

And Hirst, who signed his first professional deal in March 2016, appears to fit the Toffees’ criteria.
