Egan could partner O’Connell, who continues to be linked with a move to Brighton and Hove Albion, at Sheffield United.

Sheffield United’s seemingly imminent signing of Brentford’s John Egan may be bittersweet for the Blades.
According to the Sun (July 19, page 55), United have agreed a £4 million fee for Egan, who is in line for ‘a big pay rise’ at Bramall Lane.
But while some Blades fans are growing in excitement at the prospect of a back line comprising the Irishman and another former Brentford centre-back, Jack O’Connell, Brighton may have other ideas.
According to the Daily Mirror (July 18 liveblog, entry 21:35), the Seagulls ‘are launching a £6 million raid’ on Sheffield United with O’Connell in mind.

It follows an almost identical claim, which was made – by the Sun this time – at the start of this month, in which O’Connell was listed as an alternative to Reading’s Liam Moore for Brighton.
And Brighton’s continued failure to satisfy their need for a new central defender will likely concern those of a Blades persuasion, with a potential replacement on the way.
Can Sheffield United keep O’Connell at Bramall Lane?
