The Sheffield United defender was scheduled to have a medical at Bolton Wanderers.

The Sheffield United defender Jake Wright is set to join Bolton Wanderers on a five-month loan deal, HITC Sport understands.

The 33-year-old was due to have a medical at Bolton on Sunday, allowing a move to be finalised ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline for League One and Two clubs.

Wright is in the final year of his contract at Sheffield United and last played for the Blades in April 2018.

A temporary switch to Mansfield Town appeared to be on the cards for Wright after paperwork was agreed between the two clubs on Friday, but the Nottinghamshire side stalled as they explored alternative options.

And that has allowed Bolton to seize the initiative – although their financial situation means they can only take players on loan until January.

Wright helped Sheffield United to the League One title in his first season at Bramall Lane, before playing 17 times at Championship level the following campaign.

Bolton, though, will be hoping that Wright’s experience can help to steer them away from the bottom of the third-tier, with a 12-point deduction leaving Keith Hill’s side facing an uphill battle to avoid a second straight relegation.
