The battle for the second and final automatic promotion spot between Leeds United and Sheffield United is hotting up.

Leeds are second in the Championship table at the moment with 82 points from 42 matches, three points clear of second-placed Sheffield United.

Norwich are four points clear of Leeds at the top of the standings, and it does look like that the Canaries are pretty much certain of winning automatic promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.

Leeds, Norwich and the Blades all are in action today. While Marcelo Bielsa’s side will take on Wigan Athletic at Elland Road, the Canaries will face Sheffield Wednesday at Carrow Road and United will lock horns with Nottingham Forest at Bramall Lane.

Ahead of this afternoon’s match against Forest at home, United striker Billy Sharp – a former Leeds player – has taken to Twitter to send a message.

The 33-year-old striker has admitted his disappointment at not playing for the Blades today due to injury, and has urged the fans to support the team against Forest.

If the Blades lose today and Leeds win against Wigan, then it is hard to see Chris Wilder’s stay in the hunt for an automatic promotion spot.
