Several high profile sportspeople have suggested the Sheffield United manager could take over at Burnley.

Billy Sharp has responded to speculation linking Sheffield United’s manager with Premier League clubs including Burnley.

Several high profile sportspeople, including the former footballer Rio Ferdinand and ex-cricketer Michael Vaughan, have suggested Chris Wilder for the Burnley job, should it come up.

The current Clarets incumbent, Sean Dyche, is among the favourites to succeed Ronald Koeman at Everton, although there has been no official approach from the Toffees as yet.

Sean Dyche, Manager of Burnley looks on during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley at Wembley Stadium on August 27, 2017 in London, England.

But even if Dyche were to leave, Sharp, the Sheffield United captain, has suggested he expects Wilder to stick with the Blades.

“Obviously I don’t want him to [leave],” he told Sky Sports. “It’s a nice problem for the gaffer to have, he’s done really well all his career and he’s worked his way up. It would be nice for him to manage in the Premier League but it would be even better for him to do it with Sheffield United.

“It’s his decision at the end of the day, but I think I know what he’ll do.”

Wilder, whose third-place Blades side travel to Leeds United on Friday, remains on course for his third straight promotion, having led Dyche’s old club, Northampton Town, out of League Two before returning to Bramall Lane, where he enjoyed two spells as a player.

The 50-year-old is a lifelong United supporter, which is perhaps another reason he’d want to stay put.
