Things are looking rosy in the garden for Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder as his team sit outside of the automatic places in the Championship.

The Blades, who made a promising start to the previous campaign, will be hoping the second half of the season is much better this time around as they aim for the Premier League.

Finishing in the top two is a realistic target for Wilder’s free-flowing side as they are only two points behind second-placed Norwich and four points behind the league leaders Leeds.

The January transfer window is going to play a big part in whether United can gatecrash the top two and even secure a playoff place if they fail to achieve the former.

The Yorkshire club should look no further than their former player Phil Jagielka, who would add that extra steel in their backline and a level of calmness and experience as they head into the crucial months of the season.

The 36-year-old Everton defender, who has 380 caps to his name, has only played 54 minutes of league football this season under Marco Silva.

Considering Jagielka is at the back end of his career, Everton won’t demand a high transfer fee for their player, nor would he demand high wages if he were to make a return to Bramall Lane.

Whilst the former England man isn’t the marquee signing or highly-rated youngster the fans may be looking for, he could be that calm head in the dressing room that would help the club finish in the top two.
