Bolton Wanderers were interested in Plymouth talisman Sonny Bradley last summer – but he’d be ideal for Sheffield United.

While fans will claim incessantly that it’s nothing short of a scandal that their own talisman was omitted from the EFL Team of the Season, anyone who has watched Plymouth Argyle recently would struggle to question Sonny Bradley’s place at centre-back.

Not only has the towering defender scored seven goals in League Two this season, he has also been an almost ever-present in a backline with 14 clean sheets to its name.

Last season, Plymouth suffered heartbreak in the play-offs. This time around, with Bradley at the back, they appear nailed on for automatic promotion. Not bad for a free transfer, as reported by the BBC.

How much longer Plymouth can keep hold of him, however, is anyone’s guess. HITC sources told us last summer that Bolton Wanderers had been monitoring the performances of the 6ft 5ins stopper and, with a return to the Championship almost secured, The Trotters will be in the market for reinforcements when the market opens.

Despite conceding just 35 goals all season, the best tally in League One, Bolton cannot afford to be complacent in the transfer window. Bradley certainly deserves a chance to play at a higher level.

However, although Sheffield United were not in the market for the former Hull City youngster last summer, they should show an interest this time around.

With 45 goals in the against column, The Blades have the worst defensive record in the top four despite having already secured promotion with four games left to play. Therefore, manager Chris Wilder will know that he must improve his defensive options if Sheffield United are to thrive in the second tier after six years away.

And Bradley, one of the most impressive defenders in the country this season, could fit the bill.
