Sheffield United have not won in three since Paul Coutts broke his leg after a 3-1 defeat at Millwall.
Chris Wilder looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Sheffield United and Birmingham City.
Sheffield United have dropped down to fourth in the Championship table after a 3-1 defeat to Millwall – their third successive match without a win.
This downturn in form – which also saw them lose 5-4 and draw 1-1 at home to Fulham and Birmingham City respectively – has coincided with an injury to Paul Coutts.
Lucas Akins of Burton tackles Paul Coutts of Sheffield Utd during the Sky Bet Championship match.
Coutts broke his leg during the 3-1 victory at Burton Albion and will not play again this season and Clinton Morrison thinks the Blades are missing the midfielder’s influence on the pitch.
“They are missing Coutts,” the former striker said while speaking as a pundit on Channel 5’s Championship programme.
“Coutts is a fantastic footballer. I think him and Leon Clarke have been their two best players.”
However, Morrison believes that with Chris Wilder as manager the newly promoted team will cope without Coutts and will improve their results.
Clinton Morrisonposes during the Exeter City FA Cup Media Day at the Cliff Hill training ground.
“They’ve got a very good manager in Wilder,” he continued. “Sheffield United are having a bit of a blip but they will come good again.”
Wilder’s men continue their fixture list when they host Bristol City on Friday evening (December 8) before trips to Preston North End and Aston Villa take them up to the halfway point this campaign.
The transfer market will then reopen again in January and it remains to be seen whether the United boss will dip into it to try and replace Coutts.
