The Blades’ coffers had already been boosted by the sales of former Bramall Lane pair Kyle Walker and Harry Maguire, as a result of similar clauses.

United are said to have banked 10 per cent [around £1.4 million of the profit made by Hull City on Harry Maguire’s £17 million transfer to Leicester City [Sheffield Star], and 10 per cent of the initial £45 million fee received by Tottenham Hotspur for Kyle Walker, whose transfer to Manchester City could see yet more money heading the pair’s way [also Sheffield Star].
Had Adams been sold by Birmingham, the Blues may not have allowed another striker, Clayton Donaldson, move to Chris Wilder’s side.
