Everton don’t plan to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Conor Coady this summer amid interest from Sheffield United.

Conor Coady faces an uncertain future after Everton announced his return to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Everton have today confirmed that Coady will be returning to parent club Wolves with his loan spell over.

The Times report that Everton did have a £4.5million option to sign Coady permanently but that clause won’t be activated.

Coady joined Everton on a season-long loan deal last summer as Kevin Thelwell pounced having worked together at Wolves.

The former Liverpool man was happy to return to Merseyside but he has endured a tricky 2023.

Sean Dyche seemingly didn’t fancy Coady too much, giving him just six appearances following his January appointment.

It’s therefore no great surprise to see that Everton are moving on with Dyche looking elsewhere for a defensive signing as Yerry Mina prepares to leave.

Sheffield United may have a free run at Conor Coady

Maybe Coady can be brought back into the Wolves setup this summer.

That seems unlikely though given that another experience defender, Craig Dawson, arrived in January.

Wolves will probably make Coady available this summer and a return to Sheffield United could be on the cards.

Reports from the Daily Mail earlier this week suggested that the Blades are interested in re-signing Coady this summer.

Coady joined Sheffield United on loan from Liverpool during the 2013-14 season, when he was still considered to be a midfielder rather than a defender.

Coady scored six goals in 50 games for Sheffield United before moving on to Huddersfield Town when Liverpool sold him.

Some nine years on from Coady’s departure, the 30-year-old could be brought back to Bramall Lane.

Paul Heckingbottom and co may fancy adding more experience to their back line for their Premier League return.

Coady would fit the bill and Everton’s decision to let him leave will be of real interest to the Blades.
