Everton loanee Kieran Dowell is thriving at Championship club Sheffield United.
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has waxed-lyrical about Everton loanee Kieran Dowell and revealed that they tried to sign him in the summer before securing his services last month.
The 21-year-old is enjoying a stellar start to life in Yorkshire after he helped his side secure a valuable 1-0 win at promotion rivals West Brom over the weekend.
He has fitted straight into United’s team, playing as a number 10 in one of the most forward-thinking and free-flowing systems in English football – the fact that their centre-backs overlap on the flanks is proof of that.
Nonetheless, Wilder was full of praise for the highly-rated youngster as he was clearly pleased that he has the Everton man on his books.
“Kieran scored nine for Nottingham Forest last season, including against us, and that caught our attention,” said Wilder, as quoted by the Telegraph.
“We tried to get him in the summer, then got him in January. We’re delighted – he has been outstanding for us.”
Since moving to Bramall Lane, Dowell has played eight Championship matches, scoring one goal and supplying one assist for the club [transfermarkt].
If Wilder’s side continue in their ways then they could be coming up against Everton this season as they currently sit in an automatic place.
Third-placed Leeds United, who are level on points with the Blades and have played a game less, travel to QPR on Tuesday night and a point for them will see their rivals drop into the play-off spots.
Nonetheless, during his time at Goodison Park, Dowell has only made five senior appearances for the club and was on-loan at Nottingham Forest last term.
