Sheffield United have come out on top over Leeds United in the latest battle for second spot in the Championship as the Blades ran out 2-0 winners over Nottingham Forest in one of Good Friday’s early kickoffs.

Mark Duffy’s curling finish on 51 minutes put Chris Wilder’s side ahead at Bramall Lane just four minutes after Reds defender Yohan Benalouane had been sent off for bringing down David McGoldrick.

Full-back Enda Stevens then sealed the points for the hosts with a composed finish late on from McGoldrick’s pass, putting them back into the automatic spots, and at 3pm it was Leeds’ turn as they faced Wigan Athletic.

It proved a frustrating afternoon for the Elland Road faithful as they somehow lost 2-1 despite Cedric Kipre’s early sending-off for the visitors, Patrick Bamford’s 17th-minute opener and close to 40 shots (Sky Sports).

Needless to say, the Sheffield United fanbase was in high spirits on Twitter as they not only leapfrogged Marcelo Bielsa’s side into second but stayed there, having cancelled out the three-point gap and boasting a better goal difference than their promotion rivals.
