Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has been recognised for his exploits in April by winning the latest Championship Manager of the Month award.

The Blades went into the month third in the Championship table and with West Bromwich Albion just four points behind them in the table following their 3-2 home loss to Bristol City (BBC Sport).

However, United held their nerve to pick up a total of 14 points from six games, including wins home wins against Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town, plus victories on the road at Preston North End and Hull City.

As a result, they successfully staved off the threat of Leeds United, who were nudged into the playoff places as the top two places were filled up with two games to go, the Blades going up alongside Norwich City.

It is the second time in three months that Wilder has won the award, following a February that yielded 13 points from a possible 15, and as they are three points behind Norwich but with a better goal difference, there is a chance they could even win the title on the final day.

“I accept this award on behalf of every at the club, particularly those who work tirelessly away from the lights to give the players the platform to perform to the levels they consistently have all season,” Wilder is quoted by the official Sheff Utd website as saying.

“At this stage of the season, under the pressure we were under, to remain unbeaten throughout the month and add 14 decisive points to our tally is nothing short of remarkable.”
