Sheffield United new boy scored an unintentional own goal after his switch from Wolves, with fans warning him his message was too reminiscent of rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield United sealed the signing of Wolves midfielder Lee Evans yesterday, with SkySports reporting he has penned a three-and-a-half year contract.

Evans, 23, had become surplus to requirements at Wolves after heavy spending from the Championship leaders, who are gearing up for promotion.

It is a fresh start for Evans, and he is looking forward to it.

He sent a message to Sheffield United fans on Twitter expressing his excitement yesterday, but scored an unintentional own goal.

This came as he described the Blades as ‘massive’, a phrase rejected by United supporters as it is so frequently used by city rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Fans use the phrase ‘mighty not massive’, and were quick to try and educate Evans about his error.

Evans had been on loan at Wigan Athletic in the first half of the season, scoring three goals.

Sheffield United currently sit in seventh place in the Championship after an impressive start to the season.
