Sheffield United have confirmed the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman on a season-long loan and the fans have reacted to the news.

Tottenham Hotspur's South Korean striker Son Heung-Min (C) attempts to shoot past Wycombe Wanderers' English goalkeeper Jamal Blackman (R) but fails to score during the English FA Cup...

Jamal Blackman will be a Sheffield United player next season having confirmed his transfer from Chelsea on a season-long loan.

As per usual these days, the club took to Twitter to announce the news:

Blades fans are optimistic about the young goalkeeper continuing his development at the club, where he will be competing with Simon Moore for the first-choice role between the sticks.

They too expressed their thoughts on the deal via the medium of Twitter.

Having romped home with the League One title last campaign, manager Chris Wilder will be hoping to add quality to his side to survive a first Championship season in seven years.

Spending last year on loan at Wycombe Wanderers, Blackman claimed the club’s Young Player of the Year award for his stellar displays throughout his 52 appearances for The Chairboys.

Chris Wilder, the Sheffield United manager, looks on during the pre season friendly match between Sheffield United and Stoke City at Bramall Lane on July 25, 2017 in Sheffield, England.

However with one just game at Championship level during his loan spell at Middlesbrough it remains to be seen whether the 6ft6 stopper possesses the desired quality – only time will tell.

Blackman joins a long list of younger Chelsea players signing contract extensions before being shipped off on loan, with more than one moving to Championship clubs, but both the Blues and the 23-year-old seem in high spirits:

Given the requisite game-time this could prove to be a mutually beneficial deal for both clubs, but now on his fourth loan move Blackman definitely has a point to prove at The Blades before he can lay claim to a first-team spot at a powerhouse like Chelsea.
