A number of Sheffield United fans have suggested that Chris Wilder’s decision to take off Everton loanee Kieran Dowell was a key reason why the Blades were unable to hold onto their 3-0 lead away at Aston Villa on Friday.

It appeared that United were heading to the top of the Championship in style at Villa Park as Billy Sharp’s hat-trick saw them take an emphatic lead into the final 10 minutes.

However, Dean Smith’s side produced a stunning turnaround, with three goals coming in 11 minutes to ensure that the points were shared and United would remain in the play-off spots.

And some supporters have suggested that Dowell coming off eight minutes before Tyrone Mings made the scoreline 3-1 was one of the factors that led to the comeback.

Plenty of Sheffield United supporters have lauded Dowell’s performance, and are convinced that he is going to be an important player during the promotion race after shining on what proved to be a difficult night for Wilder’s side.
