Sheffield United fans are reacting to comments made by the Leeds United striker, Patrick Bamford, after Saturday’s meeting of the two clubs at Elland Road.

Chris Basham scored with the game’s only shot on target to send the Blades above Bamford’s side and into second place.

Celebrations in the away end were understandably vociferous, although the Whites player appeared to take exception, telling BBC Radio Leeds: “It was funny what they were singing, telling us we were bad. I know we lost but I think they’ve been a little bit daft there.

“Hearing them and hearing the Sheffield boys, it was as if they think they’re already up. Eight games to go, that’s a lot of points to play for so nothing’s written in stone yet.”

Bamford went on to suggest there are still plenty of twists and turns to be had in the automatic promotion race, and added: “Norwich have been handling (the pressure) but for Sheffield it’s their first time in the top two and first time in this position.”

Sheffield United have in fact ended nine of the last 27 game weeks in either first or second position – something several of a Blades persuasion were quick to pick up on.

Here’s what they’re saying about Bamford on Twitter.

Both Leeds and Sheffield United have eight regular season fixtures remaining, and are each scheduled to end the campaign away from home.

The pair could soon ensure a play-off finish at the very least, with sixth-place Aston Villa currently trailing the Whites by 16 points.
