Sheffield United’s performance at Hull City on Friday night drew a furious response from manager Chris Wilder, who spared only Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp from criticism.

The Blades spurned their chance to break back into the Championship’s top six with a 1-0 defeat at the KCOM Stadium, where Nouha Dicko’s 55th-minute strike proved the difference.

And Wilder – perhaps seeking a response from his players ahead of the season’s business end – went as far as to claim he had gotten the maximum out of his current crop.

Many of those were signed with points to prove from lower league clubs, with Ryan Leonard one of the most recent recruits to fit that criteria.

The former Southend United player was pursued by Sheffield United for the best part of a year before his eventual transfer to Bramall Lane in January.

But after six appearances – including three starts – in that time, several Blades fans have already made up their minds.
