De Girolamo was released in 2016 after 13 years at Sheffield United.

Former Sheffield United striker Diego De Girolamo has signed for fifth tier Macclesfield Town – less than two years after the termination of his Bramall Lane contract.
De Girolamo was highly rated during his time with the Blades, when he is said to have courted the attention of some of Europe’s top clubs.
But the former Italy Under-20 international never quite made the grade at Sheffield United and, despite being given a second chance by Bristol City, found himself without a club by February this year.

Still only 22, Chesterfield-born De Girolamo still has plenty of time to put things right, although it seems there’ll be few Blades fans cheering him on.
Here’s what they’re saying on Twitter…
Should things go to plan in Cheshire, De Girolamo could be back in the Football League for the start of next season, with Macclesfield leading the way in England’s National League.
The Silkmen are three points clear of second-placed Sutton United with only eight games left of the campaign.
