The Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is one of the many early contenders to succeed Steve Bruce at Aston Villa, according to various bookmakers.

Bruce was sacked by Villa on Wednesday after a run of only one win in 10 matches across all competitions, a run that includes a 4-1 defeat against Wilder’s United.

Wilder has led his boyhood Blades to joint-top of the Championship standings in his third season at the helm, having previously secured the League One title and a 10th-place finish in the second tier.

And Sheffield United fans are understandably desperate to keep the 51-year-old out of Aston Villa’s clutches.

Here’s what they – along with the former Blades and Villans midfielder Kevin Gage – are saying on Twitter…

Kevin Gage @gageykev: To all my Aston Villa friends on here: Chris Wilder is a S**** manager. Totally clueless. Really. Honestly. I’d look elsewhere if I were your board.

Simon Dickenson @Blade1971Simon: Replying to @gageykev love it! F****** hands off – he’s Chris Wilder, he’s one of our own! @ChrisWildersufc

Shakeyblade @shakeyblade10: Replying to @gageykev @vitalblades @eddiefarren13 he’s s**** pal, you don’t want him footballs terrible, his signing have all been rubbish.

Lee @T0llerfield: To all #avfc fans Wilder is w*** and you wouldn’t want him

Wilder is among the nominees to win the Championship’s manager of the month award for September, after leading Sheffield United to wins against Aston Villa, Preston North End and Millwall.

Could Villa prise Wilder away from Bramall Lane?
