Sheffield United fans are begging David Cotterill to return to Bramall Lane after the winger left Birmingham City on Tuesday.

Cotterill was a regular during his three full seasons at Birmingham, but only made two starts this campaign.

And with his contract due to expire at the end of the campaign, the two parties have reached an agreement to sever their ties six months early.

Cotterill previously spent 18 months on Sheffield United’s books, and many Blades fans appear to have retained fond memories of the Wales international.

In response to the previous tweeter, yes, Cotterill can now sign for any club that wants him, but no, he cannot be registered to play in competitive fixtures until the January transfer window opens.

Cotterill played 62 times for Sheffield United, scoring six goals and creating 14 more, before moving to Swansea City, with whom he won promotion to the Premier League in 2011.
