With Cardiff, Sheffield United, Bristol City and Derby coming up in their next four fixtures, this next month could define Leeds United’s promotion hopes.
Following the 0-0 draw with Hull City in the Championship, Leeds United have now not won a game in any competition since Boxing Day.
Since then they have lost three and drawn two league matches and also been knocked out of the FA Cup by League Two’s Newport County.
The result against the Tigers leaves Leeds four points off the playoffs in tenth position, which after a strong start to the season under head coach Thomas Christiansen is somewhat disappointing.
It is not a gap that the Yorkshire club cannot make up, of course, but their next four fixtures could play a significant role in whether they make a serious push for promotion back to the Premier League this term or not.
That is because the Whites face four teams above them in successive outings between now and February 21, starting with fourth-placed Cardiff City at Elland Road on Saturday, a trip to Sheffield United (7th), hosting Bristol City (5th) and then travelling to Derby County (2nd).
By the end of that run it could well be apparent whether Christiansen will live up to his early hopes of finally taking the club out of the second tier of English football, or not.
