Wolves signed Sheffield United target Ryan Bennett earlier this week – but that could have major repercussions for Ethan Ebanks-Landell’s future

Ethan Ebanks-Landell could hardly do any more to earn a second chance at Wolves. In a season out on loan at Sheffield United, the athletic centre-back helped The Blades end their six-year League One purgatory as they stormed to the title, smashing the 100 point barrier along the way.

Nonetheless, this does not mean that Ebanks-Landell’s stand-out performances in the second tier should give him hope of a return to the Wolves first-team. According to The Star, the ongoing instability at Molinuex means his immediate future is shrouded in doubt.

After all, Wolves manager Paul Lambert had held Ebanks-Landell in high esteem, even encouraging him to sign a new three-and-a-half year deal in January.

However, with The Scot departing amid a power-struggle with the club’s owners, and Wolves likely to follow the addition of centre-back Ryan Bennett with Rio Ave defender Roderick Miranda, it appears that Ebanks-Landell may be forced to continue his career elsewhere.

And that should provide encouragement for Sheffield United. After all, manager Chris Wilder would surely jump at the chance to sign the 24-year-old permanently after he played a major role in their return to the Championship.

Furthermore, just to sweeten the deal, The Blades could be enthused by the prospect of dishing out a little revenge to Ebanks-Landell’s current employers.

The Star reported that Sheffield United were in talks with recently released Norwich City defender Bennett earlier this week, only for Wolves to swoop in at the last minute.

And, ironically, Bennett putting pen to paper at Molineux could push Ebanks-Landell to Bramall Lane. This could be a blessing in disguise.

He knows the club, he knows the manager and, most importantly, he has proven his quality in the famous red and white.
