Hooper is one of six senior players released by the Owls after their Championship season ended.
Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that they have released six senior players following their final Championship game of the season on Sunday.
George Boyd, Gary Hooper, Almen Abdi, David Jones, Marco Matias and Daniel Pudil have all been let go by the Owls, with their contracts having been set to expire in the summer.
Four loan players, meanwhile will return to their parent clubs in Rolando Aarons, Michael Hector, Achraf Lazaar and Josh Onomah.
Boyd returned to favour under Steve Bruce after struggling for games under previous manager Jos Luhukay, but managed only 14 league starts in 2018-19.
Hooper, meanwhile, missed more than a year because of injury before returning in March.

Hooper joined Wednesday from Norwich in January 2016 for a fee of £3.5million, according to Transfermarkt.
The stats website also shows the 31-year-old as having made 88 appearances for the Owls, scoring 31 goals and registering 12 assists.
Wednesday’s last Championship game of the season was a 2-1 loss to Queens Park Rangers at Hillsborough which confirms a 12th-placed finish in the table.
