Sheffield Wednesday have been denied three points as a late West Bromwich Albion equaliser saw Saturday’s Championship match at the Hawthorns end 1-1.

An early goal from Owls forward Atdhe Nuhiu, after the Baggies failed to clear Adam Reach’s corner, saw the visitors establish a lead which they retained for most of the game.

Lee Bullen’s charges were further buoyed after Jay Rodriguez was shown a red card in the 63rd minute for appearing to stamp on Marco Matias.

However, it wasn’t to be for Wednesday because, after a prolonged period of Baggies pressure, Chris Brunt bundled home in the 95th minute to seize a share of the spoils.

The result means that the Owls remain unbeaten under their caretaker boss and will end 2018 in 16th place in the Championship table.

Up next for Wednesday is a fixture against Birmingham City at Hillsborough on New Year’s Day, after which they host Luton Town in the FA Cup.
