Bannan was on target as Sheffield Wednesday beat Chesterfield 4-1 in their League Cup first round tie.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal got the reaction he asked for at Hillsborough on Tuesday, as the Owls ran out 4-1 winners against neighbours Chesterfield in the first round of the League Cup.
Carvalhal made six changes from Saturday’s Championship defeat at Preston, with those who remained owing much-improved displays, albeit against lesser opposition.
And while most of them delivered, it was the performance of Barry Bannan which stood out above the rest.

The midfielder scored Wednesday’s third goal of the night after playing a one-two with Sam Winnall on the half-way line and surging towards the edge of the 18-yard box, where he picked out the top corner.
But as far as many Owls fans are concerned, Bannan would have been among the top performers even without his goal.
Here’s what they have been saying on social media…
Wednesday had trailed to a Kristian Dennis penalty scored late in the first half, but quickfire goals from Gary Hooper and Steven Fletcher had the Owls in front at the break.

And Bannan’s strike all-but sealed the hosts’ progress, before Sam Hutchinson’s did exactly that.
