The Owls put in a top-class display as Garry Monk’s return to Teesside saw the Hillsborough side claim an emphatic win.
A number of Sheffield Wednesday fans have been discussing the Owls’ resounding 4-1 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday and one of the players given the most praise was Steven Fletcher.
The 32-year-old forward put in a truly dominant performance against Boro, particularly in the first half, and was rewarded by getting on the scoresheet, his 34th-minute goal capping off Wednesday’s four-goal salvo in the opening 45 minutes.
Garry Monk’s charges scored two goals in the opening six minutes as opposition defender Adam Clayton headed into his own net before Dominic Iorfa nodded in, Barry Bannan having a hand in both courtesy of his set-piece taking.
Although Paddy McNair’s half-volley halved the deficit, the impressive Adam Reach fired home for the Hillsborough side before turning provider with a cross for Fletcher to head home at the back post.

The result means that Monk extends his unbeaten league start as Sheff Wed manager to three games and the Hillsborough side now sits seventh in the Championship table.
