A number of Sheffield Wednesday fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Sam Winnall’s performance in Tuesday night’s 1-0 Championship defeat away at Hull City.

The Owls succumbed to Tom Eaves’s first goal for the Tigers, a 72nd-minute header from Eric Lichaj’s cross, which inflicted the first defeat of Garry Monk’s reign as Hillsborough manager.

Wednesday lacked a cutting edge in attack without injured top-scorer Steven Fletcher, and Winnall did not particularly impress in his absence, spurning two gilt-edged opportunities to put the Owls ahead and overall failing to click with strike partner Atdhe Nuhiu.

In the end, the £675,000-valued forward (Transfermarkt) was subbed off for Jordan Rhodes on 68 minutes, who likewise didn’t have the greatest impact in a game marred by a controversial late refereeing call when Lichaj’s foul on Jacob Murphy did not warrant a penalty.

Here is what some Wednesday fans made of Winnall’s performance at the KCOM Stadium:

The result sees Sheff Wed eighth in the Championship table and, up next for Monk and co is Saturday’s meeting with Wigan Athletic at Hillsborough.
