A number of Sheffield Wednesday fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the EFL’s Team of the Week, namely criticising its selection after none of the Owls contingent made the XI.
Garry Monk’s charges claimed an impressive 4-1 win away at Middlesbrough at the weekend, a devastating first-half performance all but killing off the game by the interval, and the hosts could not muster a reply thereafter.
Wednesday scored two goals in the opening six minutes as opposition defender Adam Clayton headed into his own net before Dominic Iorfa nodded in, Barry Bannan having a hand in both courtesy of his set-piece taking.
Although Paddy McNair’s half-volley halved the deficit, the impressive Adam Reach fired home for the Hillsborough side before turning provider with a cross for Steven Fletcher to head home at the back post.
Despite the display, none of the Hillsborough contingent were named in the team of the week for the three divisions, and quite a few Owls fans were not impressed to say the least.
Here is some of the Wednesday fans’ reaction on social media:
The result meant that Garry Monk extended his unbeaten league start as Sheff Wed manager to three games and the Owls currently sit seventh in the Championship table.
