The Owls put in a superb display as Garry Monk’s return to Teesside yielded a comprehensive win for the Hillsborough side.

A number of Sheffield Wednesday fans have taken to Twitter to praise the Owls’ impressive 4-1 win away at Middlesbrough and one player in particular was hailed for arguably his best performance of the season.

The 26-year-old was excellent cutting in time and again from the right and claimed his first goal of the season, finishing off brilliantly from inside the box after being set up by Atdhe Nuhiu for Wednesday’s third goal of the afternoon.

He then weighed in with the assist for the fourth, playing the ball to the back post for Steven Fletcher to head home in the 34th minute, leaving the Boro team shellshocked and unable to muster up a response for the rest of the game.

Reach had found himself under criticism by sections of the Owls fanbase this term but his goal, plus his overall performance in Teesside, was met with a delighted response, as those who supported him hit back at the critics amongst the fanbase.

Here is some of the social media reaction towards the £5.3million signing (Transfermarkt) from, coincidentally, Middlesbrough:

Boro’s Adam Clayton opened the scoring when he headed into his own net before Dominic Iorfa nodded in to make it 2-0, and although Paddy McNair’s half-volley reduced the deficit, Reach fired home and Fletcher made it four.

The result means that Garry Monk extends his unbeaten league start as Sheff Wed manager to three games and the Hillsborough side now sits seventh in the Championship table.
