A number of Sheffield Wednesday fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that one-time Hillsborough loanee Rodri has joined fellow Championship side Bristol City on a free transfer.

The Spanish striker, who was with the Owls on loan from Barcelona B during part of the 2012-13 season, has joined the Robins until January with the option to sign an extension until the end of the season.

Rodri was loaned to Wednesday in August 2012 for the season, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign, and he scored on his debut, a 3-2 home win over Birmingham City in the Championship.

Although he was praised by then manager Dave Jones following his bright start to life at Hillsborough (“he’s got something different that English players don’t have“), things did not progress from there and, come January, he left Wednesday by mutual consent (Twitter update).

Since then, Rodri has been on the books at 1860 Munich, Cordoba, Cultural Leonesa and Granada, as well as having further loan stints at Zaragoza, Almeria and Valladolid.

Here is what some Owls fans on social media made of the news regarding the 29-year-old Sevilla academy graduate:

Rodri, valued by Transfermarkt at £720,000, could make his Ashton Gate debut next Wednesday when the Robins host Charlton Athletic.
