Manchester United play host to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League tomorrow.

BBC pundit Alan Shearer looks on before the FA Cup Second round match between Hartlepool United and Blyth Spartans at Victoria Park on December 5, 2014 in Hartlepool, England.

Alan Shearer explained how he expects a cagey affair at Old Trafford tomorrow, when writing his regular blog for popular betting company Coral, highlighting how Jose Mourinho will try and frustrate Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The Red Devils welcome Spurs to Old Trafford tomorrow with just goal difference currently separating the two sides, and they will both be desperate for all three points, as they look to keep pace with league leaders Manchester City.

Mourinho has endured some criticism for the defensive manner in which he has approached big games during his time in charge of United, but his ability to deliver results cannot be questioned.

And Shearer believes that will be no different against Tottenham tomorrow, explaining why it would be foolhardy for United to try and take the visitors on with an open brand of football, when writing his regular blog for Coral:

“The spotlight has been on Man United in recent weeks, with defensive performances against Liverpool and Benfica, but I don’t expect them to play any differently this weekend against Tottenham, even at Old Trafford. I expect United to try and frustrate Spurs by sitting deep and try to play on the break, similar to how they played at Anfield, as they know that if they try and take Tottenham on with open football, then they could easily get beaten.”

The Lilywhites have already been dealt a huge blow for tomorrow’s game, with the news that Harry Kane is not fit enough to make the squad, following a hamstring injury he picked up against Liverpool last weekend.

Spurs cannot be ruled out, however, what with the tremendous unity that they have amongst their players, and it would be no surprise to see them leave old Trafford with all three points.
