Alan Shearer has told his Team of the Week column on the Premier League website that Liverpool star Mo Salah was “outrageous” on Saturday afternoon. Liverpool came from behind to beat Norwich City at Anfield.

A deflected goal gave Norwich the lead in the second half, from Milot Rashica. But from that point on, Liverpool were dominant and Norwich were holding on. Unfortunately for Dean Smith’s side, to no avail.

Sadio Mane scored a superb overhead kick to equalise just after the hour mark, before some questionable Norwich defending saw Salah twist and turn to score his second goal in a few days – after netting against Inter.

Luis Diaz made it three in the dying embers, chipping an on-rushing Angus Gunn with a superb finish. Shearer praised Salah: “That’s 150 goals and counting for Liverpool. His skill and control was outrageous at times.”

Shearer on Salah: Liverpool star back to his best after little dip

Either side of the African Cup of Nations, Salah recorded just one goal in five Premier League matches. But his goal against Inter Milan in the week put that to bed, and he made it two in two with a neat finish on Saturday.

The Egyptian now has an enormous 25 goals in 30 games, as well as nine assists for the Reds. A stunning player and the world’s best at the moment, despite that slight downturn in form. Liverpool need Salah at his best.

If the Reds are to maintain a title challenge, after Tottenham beat Manchester City, they will need Salah firing on all cylinders. If they have that, then Jurgen Klopp’s men certainly have a chance.
