Alan Shearer has praised Manchester City defensive midfielder Rodri on Match of the Day on BBC One (11:13pm, September 25, 2021) for his performance against Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
City got the better of Chelsea 1-0 away from home at Stamford Bridge in London on Saturday.
Gabriel Jesus scored the only goal of the Premier League match in the 53rd minute.
Newcastle United legend and Match of the Day pundit Shearer was impressed by Rodri’s performance for City.
Shearer said on Match of the Day on BBC One (11:13pm, September 25, 2021): “Rodri I thought was immense in giving the protection when it needed to be.”

How did Rodri play?
City were the better team over the course of the 90 minutes and deservedly picked up all three points from the encounter.
The Citizens dominated possession and did not allow Chelsea much room to weave their magic in attack.
Tuchel’s side did not have a shot on target.
Rodri was a big player for City in the middle of the park.
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder was an imposing figure and protected the City defence well.
The Spain international also drove Pep Guardiola’s side forward.
Rodri took one shot which was not on target, had a pass accuracy of 94.9% won one header, took 91 touches, and made three tackles, one interception and two clearances.
